Google as you knew it is gone. For the last quarter of a century or so, Google has been the go to search engine for … “googling stuff.”
It’s dominated search to the point where we even call it “googling stuff” and those of us who are older, probably will for the rest of our days.
But of late we don’t just google stuff on Google.
Now, thanks to GEO, AEO and Social Media’s advancements, we get to Google stuff all over the internet.
TikTok is now a search engine. Reddit threads are outranking corporate websites in search engines and now the AI overview and ChatGPT are giving us answers before anyone clicks a link.
Even Google’s own AI-powered results (SGE - Search Generative Experience.) are rewriting the way information is surfaced and structured in the SERP (Search Engine Results Page)
Put simply: SGE is Google’s move towards generative AI search, and it’s one of the reasons why SEO is evolving into GEO/AEO.

– Leon C. Megginson (1963), inspired by Darwin’s theory of natural selection.
Okay, so to paraphrase Mark Twain, the rumours of Google’s death were greatly exaggerated. (this is really feeling like Star Trek: First Contact, at this point) tSEO has not died. But it has definitely changed shape. (okay, and Deep Space Nine as well)
Anyhow …
Here’s a few things to consider when looking at how to write and where to publish content for GEO / AEO / SGE.. AI.
To be fair we already covered this at greater length in “Overplate where the bullet holes aren’t” so in quick summary, here’s what matters now:
So no, SEO is not dead. It’s the foundation (now we’ve gone full on space opera!). But the next layer is generative optimisation. That’s the difference between ranking and being the answer.

This is the new battleground for visibility. It is no longer about inching higher in a list of blue links. It is about becoming the answer.
(Don’t think… feeeeeeeel!)
That means:
Post short video answers to customer questions on TikTok.
Drop real advice into Reddit threads (without the sales pitch, Jordan Belfort) and then stress test yourself: by asking the microwave (AKA ChatGPT / Gemini / AI) the same questions your customers ask. If you don’t come back in the answer, that’s your visibility gap.
Generative Experience Optimisation isn’t theory. It’s the execution of digital strategy. It’s creating content with clarity, earning trust, and testing whether the machines surface you and the people choose you when it matters. If they don’t, you go back and fix it. If they do, you keep on peddling and stay ahead of the competition which now comes from more angles and places than ever before.
So embracing GEO is not optional. It is simply the evolution of SEO and to be candid and straight to the point, we need to either adapt, or get left behind.
If you’re ready to get ahead and stay ahead of the game, let’s talk.
